THE LATE
METROPOLITAN TIMOTHEOS
OF EVCHAÏTA
BIOGRAPHY :
The late Metropolitan Timotheos of Evchaïta (in the world Ioannis Pazaridis) was born in Constantinople in 1909. He studied theoloy at Theological Institute of Halki and graduated in 1934. He was a schoolmate of the late Metropolitan Meliton of Chalcedon and the late Achbishop Iakovos of America. While studying, he was ordained deacon. He served several churches in Constantinople and was for years a teacher of religion. On July 23, 1964 he was elected assistant bishop of the Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras, receiving the title of 'Bishop of Tracheia'. He was consecrated bishop on August 2, 1964 and assisted for years the late Metropolitan Kyrillos of Chaldia in the Pera area. In 1966 he became the Abbot of the Zoodochos Pigi Monastery in Baloukli (Constantinople). On February 5, 1987 he was elected titular Metropolitan of Evchaïta. On Ocotber 2, 1990 he was elevated as diocesan Metropolitan of Evchaïta. On April 1991 he asked to be released of his pastoral duties and moved to Athens. He died in Athens in January 1993.
